What is Hh.exe?

Hh.exe is a Microsoft Windows process, which was developed, solely for assisting end users, when they seek help during a Windows session. Although hh.exe is a Windows process, it is nonessential, and thus, installed primarily to improve system use and functionality.

A nonessential or non-system process, is basically a process that originates from third-party software.

This process can typically be found in the following location, though it may vary:

C:\Windows\

Hh.exe can and usually is found in the installation of third-party help tools. Whether it be for a printer, mouse or keyboard device.

Can You Remove or Stop hh.exe?

The vast majority of non-system processes can be stopped, because they are not integral to the proper functionality of the operating system. This is true for the hh.exe process, developed by Microsoft, for their operating systems.

That said, you should never delete a Windows .exe file without knowing exactly what you are doing. This is because it can adversely affect system performance. Your best option is always to ensure your system is up-to-date, with the latest service packs, critical updates and security patches, as this will help avoid issues which may lead to you wanting to delete a Windows process. If you’re having an issue of functionality, whether with a hardware device or software program, it’s always best to check for driver and software updates, as that’s the most effective way of combating the problem.

According to research, only a small percentage of people actually remove this file from their systems. This means, in most cases, it can and is deemed to be harmless. Verifying the trustworthiness of a Windows process, will help you determine whether or not the file is safe or a virus. Is hh.exe Resource Hungry?

Hh.exe is generally not considered a process that consumes much resources. However, if your system has too many processes running at any one time. It can cause your system to run slower than usual. When addressing such problems, it’s recommended that you run Microsoft System Configuration Utility, and disable the various programs and processes that you deem nonessential.

You can also find out which processes are reading and writing to your hard drive the most. By using Windows Resource Monitor. To open this tool, simply press windows key + R, type resmon and click on OK.

Is Hh.exe a Safe File?

When trying to determine the legitimacy of a Windows file, the first thing you should investigate, is its location. For example, the hh.ee file should be located in the C:\Windows\ directory.

To confirm the legitimacy of the hh.exe file on your computer, simply press windows key + R, type C:\Windows and click on OK.

This will bring up the Windows folder, from here, you should be able to locate the hh.exe file, if it is truly legitimate.

If you are unable to locate the file. And suspect that your system may be infected with a malicious file. Then you should take immediate steps to rectifying it. Note: If the Windows process (hh.exe) is active, then it will prevent you from deleting it. Thus, it is recommended that you enter Safe Mode, prior to running the full scan. Safe Mode is basically a barebones mode, where only the essential processes and programs are loaded. This provides the user with the perfect environment to remove any programs or files that do not belong on the system. Common Error Messages

Hh.exe like any other Windows process is prone to crashing and errors. When these issues occur, they are typically accompanied by the following error messages:

hh.exe is not a valid Win32 application

These error messages are known to occur in a number of different circumstances. Such as during the installation of an application. While attempting to load a program. During system shutdown, or when the computer is booting up. Such errors are also known to occur during the Windows installation process. Recording when the error occurs, is an integral process of troubleshooting the problem.

What Causes The Errors?

Issues surrounding the hh.exe process are typically caused by third-party applications attempting to access it. The best way to rectify this problem is to uninstall or update the program in question.

It is recommended that you do not download a replacement hh.exe file from a download site. As many of these sites contain malicious files. If you need to reinstall the hh.exe file, then its best that you reinstall the associated program, or reinstall Windows using Reimage.

To avoid issues with the hh.exe process and Windows processes in general, its best practice to ensure your system is always running optimally. This means, running all the necessary checks, on a regular basis. Such as:

  • Antivirus scans
  • Hard drive cleaning (cleanmgr)
  • System file checking (sfc /Scannow)

In addition, you should also remove programs that you no longer use. Additionally, you can monitor the kinds of programs you have running at system boot up. Having Window updates set to Automatic is a must, and you can never go wrong with a backup strategy.

Use DISM.exe

In more serve situations, instead of going with a Windows reinstallation. You can attempt to repair the installation using the built in Windows tool DISM.exe.
