Password Shield is developed by ShieldApps and aims to help you deal with a problem that is becoming more and more common as each day passes – password management. The number of services on the internet, increases day by day, however, the downside to all of this, is the numerous passwords you need to create, every time you sign up to them. You can find companies that are designed to keep track of all your accounts and passwords. This tool, is designed with a similar purpose in mind, to help you manage all your user passwords. For this Password Shield review, I will be covering the ins and outs of this product.

Using Password Managers

The sole purpose of a password manager is to store all your passwords in one centralised location, whether that’s your email account(s), online banking login data or gambling account details. The main advantage to using these tools, like Password Shield, is that they use a form of encryption, to prevent hackers from acquiring the information you put in them.

The end result is, end users are no longer required to remember the countless passwords they have, for all the different services they’re signed up to. No more storing passwords in a Word document or a notebook. Password Managers present the perfect solution to an issue that is very common, and is not going to go away any time soon. The increasing popularity of these tools is only set to grow, as the internet grows.

How Password Managers Work

As suggested by its name, the purpose of these tools is to store and safeguard your passwords. When registering to a new website service, you can use the most complex passwords, ones no one would possibly guess. Then you just put it into the password manager. This way, you have the luxury of using complex passwords without having to worry about ever forgetting them.

Password managers also organize, which means, all your password data is accessible from one location, as previously mentioned, this data is in turn, encrypted, making it secure. Password Shield perfectly fits into the category of being a secure, easily accessible password manager tool.

Password Shield Review: Features

Here are the key features of this tool:

Centralised Password Storage: All your passwords are stored in a single program, which is easily accessible. This eliminates the possibility of you misplacing or losing a password. Thus, there’s no reason why you should ever need to reset a password.
Easy Login Process: In order to access all your passwords in Password Shield, the user need only remember their Master Password. Additionally, this master password can be changed at any time, and if you forget it, you can have it emailed to you.
Diversify: Password Shield remembers all the passwords that you created in the past, helping you construct stronger ones that you don’t have to memorise. When you use the same passwords for all the services you are signed up to, it makes it much easier for thieves to gain access to everything, in the event there is a breach.
Secure Password Storage: All passwords stored in Password Shield, are done so, without the use of any external data transfer, in order to eliminate any possible risks. All passwords are stored locally, on your system.
Saves Time: With Password Shield, every time you want to secure your passwords, you needn’t close down the entire program. This is because the tool has a workspace lock button. This feature allows you to lock the program while it’s still active. This feature is most handy when you need to leave your workstation, but don’t have time to shut down your system. Or if, multiple people access your system, and you don’t want them logging into your accounts.
Search Option: This tool has its own built in search option, which you can use to search for all the passwords you’ve stored in it. This makes life easier for you, while saving considerable amounts of your time.
Lock Workspace: This tool will, when needed, automatically update its spyware, virus and malware database. This ensures that it’s always up-to-date, allowing it to capture the latest viruses.
Create Strong Passwords: Password Shield has a built-in password strength analyser, which, naturally, helps you create strong passwords. This way, you can be sure that your login details is safe from hackers.

Installation

The installation process for this tool was very quick and easy. The file that I downloaded was only 5.10 MB in size, which is essentially, nothing.

Once I ran the program, for the first time, it directed me to its home page, which gave me step-by-step instructions on how to get the program up-and-running. Creating a new database, was the first thing I was instructed to do.

You can choose where you want to store this database, which, naturally is very important. The database file, is of course, encrypted, but I would still recommend you saved it in a location, other than your typical ones, like My Documents.

Once that process was complete, I was then asked to enter a Master Password. Of all the passwords, this password is, in reality, the only one that you will need to remember. That said, it did ask me for a backup email address, and a secret question, which I imagine, you’d use, in the event that you forgot the master password.

After all of that, you are directed to the main interface of the program, where you can store all your passwords. There are numerous categories that you can select from, so as to better organise your passwords, but it is possible for you to create and delete the current categories.

There’s a copy feature, for pasting username and password input, and the lock feature, to secure your password data, when you are away from your computer.

My Experience

I found Password Shield very convenient, in that it allows me to have all my passwords in one location. The only password I had/have to remember is the Master Password, but there are numerous failsafe’s in places, so I never really felt conscious about it.

You have the numerous categories, that come as standard, but I was able to alter them as I saw fit, as they didn’t all fit, into the kinds of passwords I had, or used. Using the tool is very simple, which is something I can’t stress enough, and the design/user interface is good-enough. It’s nothing special, but it did provide me with all the features that I needed, to make use of the product.

Tools like this, naturally appeal to a certain kind of person. If you’re an organised person, someone who likes structure, then a Password Manager is a must, otherwise, you may see very little use for Password Shield.

I liked it, it works, does what it’s meant to do, and allows me to use more complex passwords, without having to worry about remembering them – which is a major plus.

What I like

The things I liked most about this tool include the following:

Password Strength Analyser.
Copy to clipboard function.
Search functionality.
Clean user interface.
Password groups & categories.

What I didn’t Like

The things about this tool I’d say, I didn’t like or were lacking in this program, include the following:

Not as accessible as I would like; it could do with a lot more icons.
Database file is not hidden, which means anyone with access to your system could locate it. Fortunately, the data is encrypted, so he/she wouldn’t be able to read it, but, they would be able to delete it.

Conclusion

To wrap things up, I’d say that, Password Shield, does what it says on the box. If you run your business off, more than one computer, and have numerous accounts and passwords, then a tool like this is a must. Ultimately, whether or not this tool is for you, depends greatly on who and what you are.

So, for those highly organised soles, maybe this is something well worth your time.
